How to Determine the Size of a Motorcycle Helmet

Determining the size of a motorcycle helmet is crucial for the safety of riders, but sometimes finding the right size can be challenging. As a motorbike helmet manufacturers with more than 20 years, Basalt MS Solutions can employs professional techniques to ascertain motorcycle helmets size.

The Importance of Motorcycle Helmets Size:

When wearing a helmet and experiencing an impact, the impact-absorbing liner is designed to mitigate these forces. However, if there's too much space between the helmet and your head, you might sustain injuries from your own safety gear. Conversely, if the helmet is too tight due to minimal space, it could become uncomfortable, distracting, or even painful, leading you to eventually cease wearing it—defeating its purpose entirely.

Selecting the correct helmet size is crucial for both comfort and safety. An overly large helmet may fail to provide adequate protection during accidents, while one that's too small may be uncomfortable and may not securely fasten to your head.

How to Measure and Determine Your Head Shape:

Determining your head shape helps narrow down the extensive selection of helmets to a more manageable list. A long oval head shape refers to a head that is longer from front to back (forehead to the back of the skull) than it is from side to side (ear to ear). An intermediate oval shape, the most common, is slightly longer from front to back than it is from side to side. A round oval shape has nearly identical front-to-back and side-to-side measurements.

Next, measure the circumference of your head using a soft tape measure. The tape should run above your eyebrows and ears, encircling the widest part of your head. Alternatively, a piece of string can be used, with its length measured against a ruler after wrapping it around your head. If you're ordering online and fall between two sizes, it's advisable to opt for the smaller size or order both, as the true fit can only be determined once the helmet is worn.

Keep in mind that helmets are not designed to be immediately comfortable as your head passes through the pads. You may need to adjust your ears, and there will be a break-in period, especially if there's additional neckroll cushioning. You should feel the pads pressing against your cheeks, somewhat akin to "chipmunk cheeks". When moving the helmet by the chin bar, your cheeks should move, not the helmet. Wear it for 15-30 minutes to ensure there are no pressure points, and upon removal, check for lines across your forehead.
